My “City Garden”

My little oasis in the city. This spring I planted these Iris plants that were a gift from a designer and friend who also loves to garden!. I was not sure they would take, but they seem very happy!

“The Farm”

The beautiful “Farm Garden” I have with my partner at his home in “The Burbs”.

The “Studio Garden”

I am SO thankful and full of gratitude for the beautiful garden that is connected to my studio at The Stifel Fine Arts Center… It is just steps from my creative space… I take several short breaks daily and spend some time with Mother Nature!

The three Gardens in my life this year!

Every year, the gardens surprise me. This week at the farm, we did major weeding! I am afraid I have not been as diligent a weeder as usual since being at the residency. After I pulled what seemed to be thousands of weeds, I swear the herbs, tomatoes, and leafy greens thanked us. There’s a softness that happens out there — no shows, no deadlines, just Mother Nature, sunlight, and dirt.

Then I come back to the city, and the Iris in my backyard garden are holding their own. They are so new but have buds already this year!.

The beginning of the week found me back in the studio in Wheeling and I get to come and go repeatedly every day through the beautiful historic gardens at The Stifel Fine Arts Center!

Gardens Galore!!!!

There’s something sacred and calming about being at “the farm” so far away from the city, the city with its tight little city garden plot and the gardens at my studio. Being in and around them just recalibrates and calms me.

I paint better when the herbs are growing, the irises are healthy, and the koi are swimming.
